Tyco to open business services centre in Cork with 500 jobs

As the world’s largest fire protection and security company, Tyco provides more than three million customers around the globe with the latest fire protection and security products and services. With more than US$10 billion in annual revenue, the company has more than 65,000 employees in 1,000 locations in nearly 50 countries.

The proposed establishment of a business services centre in Cork will enable the company to improve the efficiency of processes in several central support functions, including sourcing and procurement, customer service, research and development, information technology, and finance.

Tyco would like to begin building a local talent pool that could eventually help fill those roles. Those who are interested in potential employment at the centre are encouraged to visit the company’s local career website at www.tycocareers-cork.com to submit credentials for consideration in one of the functional areas listed.

The project is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

George Oliver,Tyco’s chief executive officer said: “We are pleased to propose the creation of a new business services centre in Cork. This centre will enable us to deliver services more efficiently, increasing our competitiveness, customer satisfaction and shareholder value.”

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD said at the time of the announcement: “Foreign direct investment is a key part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, and in the past two years we have added over 13,000 jobs in multinational companies in Ireland. Today’s announcement that Tyco is establishing an operation in Cork with the potential to create more than 500 jobs is a huge boost for the city and for Ireland. I am determined that with the strong implementation of our plan we can see further announcements like this to create the jobs we need”.

Phil McVey, vice president of Tyco Business System said: “Ensuring the consistent, efficient delivery of services to our business is critical. We chose Ireland for this centre to take advantage of the country’s knowledge base and successful record of supporting operations centres like these. With 140 similar centres already located here that support companies based around the world, we were attracted to Ireland’s expertise and culture of innovation, as well as the availability of a strong technical workforce that can hit the ground running to support a range of functional areas.”

Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland said: “500 potential jobs for Cork is fantastic news for the local economy. Cork is home to 149 overseas companies in the south-west region employing 27,860 people. In recent years, Ireland has experienced a general improvement in its cost competitiveness. Tyco are a truly global company, with operations in nearly 50 countries across the world. This Tyco centre will provide opportunities for candidates with a variety of educational backgrounds – I would encourage anyone interested to look through Tyco’s local career website.”
